Georgia Governor Proposes 20% Pay Hike

Pay Hike

TRAINING & PAY. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal proposed a 20% percent pay increase for state law enforcement officers and an overhaul of police training. Plan would cost about $79 million per year, raise median salary of 3,300 state law enforcement officers by about $8,000 and require additional annual training for state’s 57,000 sworn officers.  and expand a program focusing on mental health crises. Proposal would add four more hours to current 20 hours required and focus on use of force tactics, de-escalation and community policing strategies. Pay increase was praised but critics say far more training time is needed. (9/8/16)
